Marvelous to see your work in preserving Laois Heritage. I wonder whether the Michael O'Brien listed as your president in 2004 could be the author of "The Lalors of Tenakill: 1767-1893"? The book looks like a fantastic resource. Actually I'm amazed that I didn't know about it until recently. (My own Lawlor line could tie in to Tenakill, so I'm hoping to find some way to obtain access to this book.) Would your society be interested in what I have learned about General Joseph O'Lawlor (born in Clonaheen and served in Spain's Napoleonic war)? I would be most pleased to share that with you. Warm regards, Gary Lawlor U.S.A. |

I recently visited Ireland with my family. We loved our visit to Laois. My favourite spot is the ruin of Dunamase - I am certain we heard ghostly whispers (or the sounds of the houses below). Unfortunately we could not find Dysart Enos Cemetery though we drove up the road next to it - could not find a sign of the entry. It is a beautiful part of the country!

Great web site. I am researching the Fennelly's from Mountmellick. In particular a Thomas Fennelly, Baptized Aug. 13, 1877. The entire family moved to the U.S. in the 1890's but not Thomas. There seems to be no record of him after the Baptism. I saw the name Teddy Fennelly in the list of officers. Any chance he has connections to Mountmellick? In any case, thanks for a great web site.

Congratulations on your new website. I have just been looking at another great site called www.portlaoisepictures.com which has the most up to date history of Portlaoise that I have ever come across. I found the link on the County Council webpage. My native town is now well and truly represented on the internet. Best wishes from Leitrim
